Eva Riegler Counselling and Psychotherapy

My Training

  • Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

  • Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapy.

  • Post-Graduate Diploma in Couples-Counselling.

  • Post-Graduate Diploma in Supervision.

  • Diploma in Sociology, combined with Psychology and Political Sciences from the University of Vienna (1990).

  • Member of both professional bodies for psychotherapists: BACP (MBACP, British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and accredited member of UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy).

  • My initial training was in the medical field and I worked for 7 years at the General Hospital Vienna conducting radiological examinations before I moved on to further education. At the Clinic for Internal Medicine I encountered not only physical illnesses but also observed at first hand the thought patterns that go with them. I was intrigued by the obvious connection between the health of mind and body and how people deal with the adversities of life in very different ways. My fascination always lay with the uniqueness of human nature and the existential questions of life.

    My Experience:

  • As well as working as tutor, facilitator and supervisor at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education in London Westminster, Maida Vale, I also run a Private Practice there. It is close to Paddington, Little Venice, St. John’s Wood and within easy reach of Queen's Park, Kilburn, Bayswater, Notting Hill Gate and Central London.

  • I have also trained in Couples Counselling and my aim is to provide a safe and comfortable space where the couple can explore their issues. The presence of a therapist changes the dynamic of communication and I see my role as an advocate for the relationship. Transpersonally speaking every crisis offers an opportunity for an opening of new perspectives, a break-through and growth, for each individual as well as the relationship.

  • Certified Louise Hay Work-shop teacher (for further information please see the section on workshops) and run workshops for groups dealing with a diverse range of topics related to personal development and behavioural change such as Assertiveness, Creativity, Work related issues, Relationships, etc. The programme for my workshops is adapted from Louise Hay's teachings, Susan Jeffers' writings and her “Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway” work-shops and my experience with therapeutic work and counselling.

  • How I work
My therapeutic approach is best described as integrative, which means I bring together many schools of thought such as Psychodynamic approaches, Gestalt therapy, Humanistic, Existential, Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) as well as the Transpersonal. This enables me to use many different methods to provide the best possible service for the specific needs of each client. My approach is holistic, meaning, I am upholding that all aspects of people's needs, psychological, physical, social and spiritual, should be taken into account and seen as a whole.

    What is Transpersonal Psychotherapy?
The Transpersonal goes beyond the personal and considers also our inner core of being, everything independent of our up-bringing or concept of self we have acquired. Transpersonal Psychotherapy does not see a crisis as something 'wrong' with the person, but as a process where something new can emerge, a more authentic sense of self and hence, new possibilities and choices.

My view on Counselling and Psychotherapy
My view is that we all have within ourselves the capacity for altering our self-concept, behaviour and life circumstances, and that from deep within we all desire permanent growth towards our fullest potential and to realise the best of who we are. But sometimes we get stuck or find ourselves overwhelmed by circumstances and don't know where to turn.

My primary role as a therapist is that of a companion and guide who is creating the right conditions so that you can move on. My first and foremost goal is to be fully present with an attitude of deep care and unconditional acceptance of the person embarking on this journey. Truly sharing another's experiences and listening without judgement in an atmosphere of trust has a transformative effect in itself. Based on such a relationship change on the inside and of our outer world can take place. My therapy aims with clients are therefore ambitious: In addition to symptom removal and alleviation of pain I strive to facilitate personal growth and basic character change.
